Tabata is a form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) that has taken the fitness world by storm. Originating from Japan, this workout was developed by Dr. Izumi Tabata and a team of researchers at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo. The concept is simple yet incredibly effective: short bursts of intense exercise followed by brief periods of rest. Typically, a Tabata session consists of 20 seconds of maximum effort followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated for 8 rounds. This adds up to just 4 minutes of intense exercise, but don’t let the short duration fool you—Tabata is a powerhouse for burning calories and improving cardiovascular fitness.
